Amazfit’s new fitness tracker might be a rebranded Mi Band 5 - Android

Much like the Mi Band 5, it's called the Amazfit Band 5.

  • Huami is working on a fitness tracker that could be a rebranded Mi Band 5.
  • The tracker made its way through the FCC, revealing a number of features.
  • The news comes as Xiaomi prepares to launch the Mi Band 5 in more markets.

Xiaomi doesn’t officially sell its Mi Band series in the US, but its manufacturer Huami does have a retail presence in the country in the form of Amazfit-branded wearables.

Now, it looks like Huami might be preparing to launch a rebranded version of the Mi Band 5 in the US. The company has registered (via GadgetsandWearables) a fitness tracker called the Amazfit Band 5 with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

While an FCC registration could indicate a US launch, we must keep in mind that the regulatory agency also certifies products that don’t always launch in the US. So it’s also possible that the Amazfit Band 5 isn’t intended for the US market.

Nevertheless, references to the Amazfit Band 5 were previously found in the code of the Amazfit app, indicating that it could be a successor to the Mi Band 4.

The FCC documentation reveals the packaging of the Amazfit Band 5 which confirms that a number of its features match those of the new Mi Band 5. These include 5ATM water resistance, a 125mAh battery, continuous heart-rate monitoring, multi-sport modes, an AMOLED display, and connected GPS.

However, the FCC document fails to mention any other features of the Amazfit Band 5 so we’ll just have to wait and see what it’s all about. Images would have given us a better sense of what to expect but unfortunately, there are none in the listing.

Meanwhile, Xiaomi has already confirmed that it will launch the global version of the Mi Band 5 soon. That means you can expect it to launch in Europe and the UK where it could cost around $30-$35.
