Amazon to release its own Google Stadia competitor, original game titles - Android

We don't know much about it yet, but Project Tempo could launch as early as this year.

Amazon already owns Twitch — one of the largest game streaming platforms on the planet — but the company plans to expand further out into the games industry in the near future. According to The New York Times, Amazon is investing hundreds of millions of dollars into video game development and an upcoming cloud gaming service codenamed Project Tempo.

Amazon is currently working on a few game titles, including some casual games Twitch streamers can play alongside viewers in real-time. Two of the company’s big-budget titles — Crucible and New World — are set to launch next month.

Project Tempo was also supposed to see an initial launch this year, but Amazon could potentially push it back to 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic. Amazon hasn’t revealed much more about Project Tempo yet, but given that it wanted to release an early version in the coming months, we can assume the company has already put a decent amount of work into it.

Amazon already has experience in movie and TV show streaming and production, so the company could use that experience and existing infrastructure to its advantage. But with Google Stadia and Nvidia GeForce Now already available and Microsoft’s Project xCloud coming relatively soon, will Project Tempo have what it takes to win over consumers? We’ll just have to wait and see.
