Are you concerned about foldable phone durability (Poll of the Week) - Android

Every new technology has its fair share of growing pains. Remember 4G and how the first phones with the technology lasted about six hours on a single charge? Sometimes it can take companies a few iterations to get everything right. I think foldables are going through their 4G-bad-battery-life phase.

So far in early 2020, we’ve only seen four consumer-ready foldables come to market: Two from Samsung, one from Huawei, one from Motorola. And they’ve all had problems.

Samsung first issued faulty Galaxy Fold review units that broke after only a few days of normal use. This caused the phone to be delayed for months while Samsung could work out the display issues.

Huawei delayed its foldable phone, the Huawei Mate X, in both June and August 2019. Huawei never officially gave a reason for the delay, but the company likely pushed the official launch to improve its foldable display tech.

Now, Motorola and Samsung are running into more display issues. Two different sources have published photos of broken Samsung Galaxy Z Flip and Motorola Razr displays, both citing cold weather as the culprit. We’re not sure if this issue is widespread at the moment, but considering the issues other foldables have run into it’s certainly cause for a bit of concern.
