Global analytics company App Annie just released its State of Mobile 2020 report, which summarizes the worldwide mobile data it collected in 2019. The report reveals several interesting things about the global mobile market, including which apps users downloaded the most and which ones they spent the most time and money on.

Most notably, Facebook walked away from 2019 with four of the five most downloaded apps around the world. Facebook Messenger stole away with first place. Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram came in second, third, and fifth, respectively.

TikTok snuck into the top five at number four, breaking up Facebook’s domination. Surprisingly, not a single Google app made it in the top 10. Even Twitter was absent from this list.

The report also revealed several other interesting pieces of information about mobile user habits and market growth. For instance, the average person spent 3 hours and 40 minutes on their phone per day last year. That’s a 35% increase over the two years prior.

We also learned that consumers spent about $120 billion in combined App Store and Play Store purchases in 2019. Mobile game purchases make up nearly three-fourths of that, with China leading sales. Some of the top app offenders here include Tinder, Netflix, and YouTube, while some top games include PUBG Mobile, Candy Crush Saga, and Pokémon GO.

Though 2019 was monumental for growth in the mobile space, App Annie says 2020 will be even bigger. The company projects the global mobile ad space will grow to a grand total of $240 billion by the end of the year. This would be a $50 billion dollar increase over 2019.
