GoPro could soon expand the focus of its cameras beyond their traditional emphasis on capturing sports and other frenetic activities. WinFuture has shared official-looking images of the GoPro Hero 9 Black. If you’ve used a GoPro in the past, you will immediately notice what’s different about the camera we see here. It features a front-facing color display instead of the typical monochrome screen seen on past GoPro models.
Compared to the attempts we’ve seen to make dual-screen phones a thing, the inclusion of a secondary color display on a GoPro camera makes a lot of sense. While we don’t know the exact capabilities of the screen, it will likely be able to display footage as you record it. Some people already use their GoPro as a vlogging camera. This feature would make it an even better fit for that type of use.
According to WinFuture, GoPro will update the camera at some point post-launch to add support for 5K video capture. The website says the camera also features fold-out mounting arms that will allow you to attach it to mounts without putting it in a case.
Beyond those details, the website didn’t have much other information to share. We don’t, for example, know when GoPro will release the Hero 9 Black, nor how much it will cost when it does eventually come out.
In the past, GoPro has typically detailed its new Hero cameras in either late summer or early fall. If the company sticks to its usual schedule, we could see it announce the Hero 9 Black sometime in the next few weeks.
