Google Pixel 4a rumored to come in only one size, no XL variant - Android

For those of you who prefer larger handsets, you may be left high and dry this year with the Google Pixel 4a. According to popular tech YouTuber Dave Lee, it looks like this year’s budget Pixel device might only come in one small size variant.

Now, Lee isn’t known for breaking leaked information, and his claims don’t come with a source, but he seems pretty confident about it. Lee stated this year’s Pixel 4a will only come in one 5.81-inch variant option, similar to what we see on the Samsung Galaxy S10e.

Even though this is a slight bump from the Pixel 3a‘s 5.6-inch display, it’s still shy of XL territory. The Google Pixel 4a’s overall dimensions should come in at about 144.2 x 69.5 x 8.2mm with a 9mm camera bump, making it fairly useable as a one-handed device.

It kind of makes sense Google would want to cut costs, especially considering last year’s Pixel 3a apparently vastly outsold the Pixel 3a XL. Regardless, this is still disappointing and a little confusing.

Pixel devices have come in standard and XL variants since the beginning. Not only that, but most handsets available today come in various sizing options too. This allows more people to find a device that meets their needs and fits their lifestyles. And since Google’s budget line is meant to get more Pixel devices in more people’s hands, you would think limiting user choices would be bad for sales.
