Google is launching its rewards program — Google Play Points — in the US. The initiative was first launched in Japan in September 2018, and later made its way to South Korea in April 2019. Google says millions of people have joined the program since its launch.
The program will let Play Store users in the US earn rewards for buying in-app items, movies, books, subscriptions and more. Play Points can also be accumulated by downloading free featured apps or games. Google says that it will hold weekly events where users will be able to boost their earnings.
Google Play Points can be used for items and discounts in popular games like Candy Crush and Pokémon Go. Google is partnering with developers of some of the top apps and games on Google Play for the program.
The rewards program has four levels, from Bronze to Platinum. Your level will depend on the number of points you’ve collected. Check out how the rewards system breaks down below:
If you’re not keen on using Play Points in games, you can exchange your earnings for Google Play credit to use on movies, books, games, and apps.
In addition to getting app goodies and other Google Play items, Play Points can also be used for the greater good. Google has partnered with nonprofits, including Doctors Without Borders USA, Save the Children, and the World Food Program USA. Users can help support these charities with their Play Points.
The program is free to join. It will be available over the next week and users can earn three times the Play Points on everything they buy in their first week.
To enroll, open the Play Store app on your Android device. Tap Menu>Play Points>Join, and that’s it!
