  • Google just pushed out a minor update to the first Android 11 beta.
  • This is not the second beta; we don’t expect that until next month.
  • This new beta fixes some bugs and, thankfully, brings Google Pay support.

It was only about a week ago that Google launched the first Android 11 beta. However, today Google launched version 1.5 of the beta program in order to fix some pretty annoying bugs that have been plaguing testers over the past week.

To be clear, this is not the second beta. We don’t expect to see that until July 2020. This is simply a quick tweak of the first beta so people don’t need to use a very buggy OS until the genuine second beta lands.

What’s new in Android 11 beta 1.5?

Along with bug fixes, the Android 11 beta 1.5 also brings Google Pay support, which is a welcome fix. With contactless payments more popular than ever as well as the COVID-19 pandemic making them all but essential, Google Pay support is pretty much a necessity.

Some examples of the fixed bugs in this new version are:

  • eSIM failures on the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3a
  • Strange reboots when using gesture navigation
  • Strange reboots when moving apps from landscape to portrait
  • Bluetooth pairing slowness

There are likely a lot more fixes but we haven’t had time to delve deep into the Android 11 beta 1.5 yet. Stay tuned for a more thorough list.

The easiest way to get the new beta is to wait for the OTA to appear on your phone that’s already running the first beta. If you want it faster, we recommend Google’s web flashing tool, but you can always manually install the update using the factory images.
