It looks like Huawei plans to refresh the Watch GT 2 with a feature that was missing from the original without changing too much else.
WinFuture’s Roland Quandt has shared images of what he says is the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro. According to the leaker, the wearable includes support for Qi wireless charging, something that was missing from the GT 2.
It doesn’t appear the GT 2 Pro includes many other changes, with Quandt saying the wearable will feature a 1.39-inch OLED screen with a 454 x 454 resolution. That’s the same display that you get with the GT 2.
He says the wearable will also include 4GB of internal storage, GPS tracking, and a 455mAh battery, which should get you about 14 days of use on a single charge. Again, those are all hardware specs you can find on the current GT 2.
While wireless charging was something we would have liked to have had on the GT 2, it wasn’t what held back the wearable for us.
Compared to Wear OS, WatchOS, and even Samsung’s Tizen, Huawei’s Lite OS felt like it didn’t have as much functionality. Third-party integration with Huawei Health was another issue. These could be things Huawei has tried to address with the GT 2 Pro, but Quandt didn’t speak to specific software enhancements. You can read our Huawei Watch GT 2e review for more information on Huawei’s smartwatch OS.
It looks like we should have the chance to see the software for ourselves soon enough. Quandt says the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro will launch in Germany sometime in the next few weeks and will cost approximately €280 (~$331). No word on pricing and availability in other countries. We’ll let you know when we find out more about the wearable.
