Native screen recorder is vastly improved in Android 11 Developer Preview 2 - Android

After what seems like years of waiting, Google has finally added a native screen recorder feature to Android. This feature comes after years of other ODMs adding their own implementations of the feature. Samsung, Huawei, and others have been doing it for so long now, so we’re glad to see Google making it a native feature.

We first saw a glimpse of this feature in the first Android 11 Developer Preview, but now we’ve got a full-fledged, working recorder. When you launch the feature, you’re given the option to record audio alongside the recording or show touches. This is really useful when you’re trying to show someone how to do something on their phone.

The feature is really simple at the moment, and it’s possible Google will build it out to allow for things like resolution shifts, recording from the front camera and more later down the line. It’s very Google to try not to over-complicate features though, so we won’t hold our breath.
