Otterbox wants to protect your beautiful mug from your filthy phones - Android

OtterBox will be the first to integrate EPA-registered antimicrobial technology into its smartphone screen protectors.

OtterBox is mostly known for its rugged phone cases, though it offers a plethora of other products and accessories too. Notably, OtterBox makes some solid screen protectors, and some of them are about to get even better by protecting your beautiful mugs from your filthy, disgusting phones.

In partnership with Corning, OtterBox announced at CES 2020 it will soon include EPA-registered antimicrobial technology in its Amplify glass screen protector line to suppress bacteria growth on your device. It’s doing this in an effort to combat microbes that live on our devices after coming in contact with some unsavory locations like restrooms, coffee shops, buses, etc.

“We use our phones every day and take them with us wherever we go, including to some not entirely sanitary spaces,” said OtterBox CEO Jim Parke. “Amplify Glass now features proprietary antimicrobial technology that suppresses the growth of several common stains and odor-causing bacteria to protect the surface of the screen protector, so you don’t have to give phone grime a second thought.”

Corning and OtterBox based this proprietary technology on ionic silver, which they will embed directly in the glass. This means the antimicrobial effect will be long-lasting with no degradation throughout the life of the screen protector. It also means the damage-resistance, clarity, and touch-sensitivity of the glass should remain the same as other Otterbox products.

OtterBox is the first company to include this technology in its screen protectors. So, if the idea of rubbing tiny, nasty bacteria all over your face every time you answer a phone call gives you the willies, you’ll definitely want to give the Amplify screen protector line a look. Screen protectors with EPA-registered antimicrobial technology will be coming soon to otterbox.com.
