Pixel owners can now pin their favorite apps to the share menu (Updated) - Android

Update: With the new Pixel Feature Drop update for March 2020, Google enabled app pinning to the share menu.

Update: March 2, 2020 at 5:09 p.m. ET: Along with the new Pixel Feature Drop update and March 2020 security patch, Google also enabled app pinning to the share menu.

To pin an app to the share menu, select a file you’d like to share, tap the share button, long-press the app shortcut you’d like to pin to the share menu, and tap the Pin option in the popup. Now, that shortcut should be available at the top of your share menu whenever you want to share a file.

Original article: February 19, 2020 at 5:39 p.m. ET: Google first introduced the ability to pin apps to the share menu in Android 7 Nougat. This was extremely useful because up until recently, the share menu was… kind of a mess. Fortunately, Android 10 totally overhauled the share menu and made it more seamless than ever. Unfortunately, that same update also took away app pinning, a great way to quickly find the apps you like to share media to the most.

But now in Android 11, app pinning is back, which means we’ve got the best of both worlds. Not only do you have the new and improved share sheet, but you’re also able to pin four of the apps you share to most frequently to the top of it. Other apps will still be listed below if you decide you want to send media through other means, though.

What apps do you share to the most? Let us know, and make sure you stay tuned for all of our Android 11 coverage!
