Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus updates are becoming more scarce - Android

It looks like Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus owners are going to have to wait a bit between security updates.

It looks like Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus owners are going to have to wait a little longer between security updates, as it appears Samsung will be releasing them on a quarterly basis going forward for both devices.

As reported by SamMobile, users will receive all of the smaller updates that would have come monthly in larger quarterly firmware updates instead. In day-to-day usage, it shouldn’t make too much difference to anyone still using these phones, as the updates tended to be fairly minor at this point in the life cycle. It’s been some time since any major new features were provided to owners of these two popular phones.

This is par for the course for Samsung, as the company tends to step releasing monthly updates once a device hits three years old — a milestone that both devices recently achieved at the end of April.

Additionally, as expected, this provides further proof that neither device is going to get Android 10. This also shouldn’t come as a surprise, as both the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus have already received two major updates since release, which is the usual amount Samsung does for its phones.

For anyone with a Samsung Galaxy S8 Active, they should still receive monthly updates. That device first hit store shelves in August 2017, giving it a few months of updates before it shifts to quarterly as well.
