T-Mobile is marking the end of the Sprint brand by launching a promo plan that could entice you if you’re particularly cost-conscious.
The newly introduced plan is available starting July 24 and provides four lines on T-Mobile Essentials for $25 per month (plus taxes and fees) if you set up autopay, with 5G data included. This applies to both new and existing customers. Additional lines cost $20 each, up to six lines. The promo will only last for a “limited time,” although T-Mobile didn’t say when it would end.
If you need new phones at the same time, you can add a Galaxy A71 to each line for an extra $5 per month.
You aren’t stuck if you prefer to keep your current plan, either. On the same day, T-Mobile and Sprint customers can either get a Galaxy A71 for free or half off the price of a Galaxy S20 if they both offer a trade-in and accept two years of bill credits.

Not surprisingly, T-Mobile has claimed a price advantage over rivals. It noted that AT&T’s Unlimited Extra costs $40 per month for four lines, while Verizon (disclaimer: this author also writes for Verizon-owned Engadget) offers a Do More Unlimited plan for $45 per line across four lines. That’s a fair comparison when you need those rates to get 5G data, but it’s worth noting that you can pay $35 per line on both rivals if you’re happy with LTE data.
It’s not shocking that T-Mobile would make a time-limited offer like this. The carrier wants to keep Sprint customers who just lost their 5G service, and a combination of low-cost plans and devices could keep them from jumping to competitors. This could also temporarily please regulators worried that T-Mobile will hike prices now that Sprint is no longer a threat. The concern, of course, is that T-Mobile might raise prices once the merger is well-established.
