  • A US-based law firm is looking into whether or not to initiate a Google Pixel 3 class-action lawsuit.
  • The firm is investigating whether alleged defects of the Pixel 3 line are hardware related.
  • If the team finds there’s enough evidence to suggest Google shipped Pixel 3 phones with defective hardware, the suit would likely move forward.

It seems that every time Google releases a new Pixel smartphone, the devices are inevitably plagued with accusations of hardware defects. The Pixel 3 from 2018 is no different, and now a United States law firm is investigating the potential of starting a Google Pixel 3 class-action lawsuit related to the alleged defects of the line (h/t Android Police).

Specifically, Chimicles, Schwartz, Kriner, & Donaldson-Smith, LLP (CSK&D) is looking into whether prominent issues with the Pixel 3 battery and camera are hardware-related. If the firm can argue that Google shipped the phones with defective hardware, the Google Pixel 3 class-action suit would likely go forward.

Why would there be a Google Pixel 3 class-action suit?

The two areas of focus for the potential Google Pixel 3 class-action suit are the camera and the battery. For the latter, there have been lots of complaints from owners that battery life on the phone is incredibly poor and prone to random shutdowns. One of the alleged issues relates to the battery quickly and inexplicably draining battery and then spontaneously shutting down.

As far as the camera goes, there are also lots of user complaints related to “shaky” camera footage for both photos and videos. There are also people who say the camera app just crashes randomly altogether.

Google has issued plenty of software updates to the Pixel 3 line related to the battery and the camera. However, if these problems persist then the source of the headaches might be the hardware, which would make a Google Pixel 3 class-action suit possible.

If a suit did move forward, it would likely involve users signing up to say that they experienced some or all of these problems. After proving they purchased a Pixel 3, they would get a portion of any settlement Google might be forced to pay as a result.

In the meantime, you can help out CSK&D by filling out this form on their website. By doing so, you can help them figure out how severe and widespread these problems are and possibly help them push a Google Pixel 3 class-action suit forward.
