We’ve been talking a lot about battery technology lately. While lithium-ion alternatives like graphene in smartphones are still a ways away, companies are skirting the mediocre battery life problem by introducing things like super fast charging. Oppo unveiled its new fast charging standard this week. While it can charge a big phone battery in no time, it does put an incredible amount of strain on the battery and causes it to degrade more quickly over time.
This prompted me to ask you last week about your must-have battery feature. When buying a new phone, what battery feature do you look for first? Nearly 1,000 of you voted, and there’s a clear feature you all prefer.
This one shouldn’t come as much of a surprise: Nearly 58% of voters in last week’s poll said daily battery life is the most important battery feature in a smartphone. After all, it’s a metric that’ll have the biggest effect on your smartphone usage every day.
Surprisingly, 27.87% of voters said battery longevity over time is their most important feature. I’m assuming these voters aren’t thrilled about all the new fast charging technology, which is known to degrade batteries faster over the course of a couple years.
Just 10.96% of voters said charging speed is the most important thing. Some people don’t care about daily battery life as long as they can top up their phones in just a few minutes.
And in last place is wireless charging, with just 3.48% of the votes. Wireless charging technology still isn’t great (it’s slow and heats up phones quite a lot), and many manufacturers still don’t view it as an essential feature.
