Based on form factor alone, which would you choose?

Foldables are a very new product category. So new, that the few companies who have brought foldable phones to market all have vastly different takes on what foldables should be.

The new Motorola Razr is actually quite similar to the Razr flip phones from the mid-2000s. There’s a small display on the front, and the body flips open like a traditional flip phone to reveal a larger, taller screen. You don’t get a huge tablet-like display with this one, but it does seem the most natural compared to our current non-foldable phones today.

The other two consumer-ready foldables are quite different from the Razr. The Samsung Galaxy Fold features a big, book-style display on the inside with a smaller secondary display on the front. It would be nice to have that much screen real estate on the inside, but many reviewers have said the front display is tough to use.

The Huawei Mate X, which still isn’t available in many markets, is essentially the opposite of the Galaxy Fold. It still has a large tablet-like display, but it folds outwards. This means you’ll have access to a bigger display when it’s not in tablet mode, but it runs the risk of scratching more easily.

If I had to choose one based on form factor alone, I’d have to go with the Motorola Razr. It seems to be the more natural one to use since it doesn’t require you to use a big square display with two hands. What do you think?
