First announced in India in September, the Xiaomi Mi Smart Speaker could soon make its way to Europe according to a report by WinFuture.
The Mi Smart Speaker packs Google Assistant smarts accessible via two far-field microphones on the speaker’s roof. Its top panel also plays host to touch controls and an Amazon Echo-like LED ring for some added RGB flair.
Internally, the Mi product packs a 12W 2.5-inch main driver with DTS support. Support for 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi networks and Bluetooth 5.0 also features. Users are also promised 360 degrees of sound thanks to its wired mesh design.
In our Mi Smart Speaker review, we found that it’s excellent for vocal and acoustics reproduction but does struggle with bass-heavy tracks. The speaker also lacks line-out support, a must for those wishing to use it as a smart controller for larger speakers.
Per the report, the Mi Smart Speaker will be priced at €53 (~$62) in Spain and €60 (~$70) in Portugal. That’s slightly pricier than the Indian sticker of Rs 3,999 (~$54), but still poses a threat to the €59 (~$69) Google’s Nest Mini and €99 (~$116) Nest Audio in the region. For those invested in Amazon’s ecosystem, the Mi Smart Speaker doesn’t tout Alexa support so the Echo Dot seemingly remains the alternative in this price range.
Xiaomi hasn’t confirmed pricing and availability across the continent just yet, but expect more info to surface from the Chinese firm shortly.
