Xiaomi took to social media to tease the Redmi K30 5G Speed Edition, which will be an upgraded version of the existing Redmi K30. In doing so, the company may have leaked an unannounced Qualcomm Snapdragon 768G chip.

The phone was first teased on Chinese social network Weibo. It was hinted that the new Redmi K30 5G Speed Edition would launch at 2:00 PM China Standard Time (2:00 AM ET) on May 11, 2020, in partnership with Chinese retailer JD.com, which would mean we should learn more about the new processor then.

While we don’t know much about the new processor, we do know that “Snapdragon 768G” is specifically listed twice by the Chinese retailer, meaning it’s unlikely that it is a typo. First, the unannounced processor is shown in the upcoming phone’s title, and then it’s mentioned again in the detailed specifications.

Presumably, if the Snapdragon 768G does exist, it will be an upgraded version of the Snapdragon 765G with improved performance. The original Redmi K30 is powered by the Snapdragon 765G, so it would make sense for an updated version of that phone to feature an improved processor.

As pointed out by XDA Developers, the Snapdragon 865 is already used in the Redmi K30 Pro, and it makes sense that the company would want a mid-range processor that’s a step down from that to go in this device. That would make the Snapdragon 768G a perfect option — if it’s what we think it is.
