Android-powered Microsoft Surface Duo might come with genius ‘Peek’ feature - Android

The feature would allow you to see your Android notifications without needing to fully unfold the device.

The Android-powered Microsoft Surface Duo is shaping up to be one of the more exciting devices expected in 2020. The unique dual-screen device could replace your phone, tablet, and laptop if it turns out to work on all of those levels.

Of course, what will make-or-break the unique form factor of the Microsoft Surface Duo is its usability. Now, via Twitter, we have a leak of a pretty genius feature tentatively known as “Peek” that could land on the Surface Duo.

An image is worth a thousand words, so check out the GIF below to see how Peek might work (h/t The Verge):

The leaked video portrays Peek as a way to quickly check and even interact with your Android notifications without needing to fully open the Microsoft Surface Duo. This seems like a small thing but when you consider the Surface Duo doesn’t have a secondary outside display, Peek might be something you use many times a day.

So far, most foldable devices — including the Motorola Razr, Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, and Samsung Galaxy Fold — have some sort of screen outside to prevent you from needing to constantly open the device just to check notifications, the time, battery levels, etc. Without that secondary screen, one would need to fully open the Microsoft Surface Duo quite a lot just to see what day it is. The idea that you’d only need to open it a little bit to do so is a nice touch.

However, the Surface Duo is a whole new form factor for a “smartphone” (if we can even call it that), so it has an uphill battle for earning users. What do you think? Are you excited about the Microsoft Surface Duo? Let us know in the comments.
